What did I make? For our final project we were challenged to make a project with a message or deeper meaning. I decided to create a sculptural piece with relief sculpture aspects and appliqués.
Why did I make it?I wanted this piece to show a challenge between dark and light. I also wanted to touch on the issue of pollution and the damage that it does to nature and our environment. I wanted to show a glimmer of hope within the darkness with the single green vine that reaches into it.

How did I make it?I began by rolling out a slab and laying it over a rolling pin and plastic bags in order to create the wave form. I then sculpted and attached appliqués along with use ribbon tools to decorate and sculpt the slab. I used sponges and brilo pads to make sure the surface was smooth. Once leather hard I was able to stand the sculpture up and once bone dry it was bisque fired. After it was fired I used a variety of colors to paint the piece. I also used a sponge to simulate texture and decorate the surface of my project. I then applied clear glaze to the whole project and it was glaze fired.
