What did I make it?I created a vase on the pottery wheel with a wavy lip. It is painted purple and is decorated with blue bubbles.
Why did I make it?I wanted to improve my wheel throwing by attempting a more advanced project. I choose to paint it the way that I did and make the lip wavy because I think that they compliment each other and go along with a water or wave theme.

How did I make it?First I placed a bat on the wheel and moistened the center. Next, I slammed the clay onto the bat and centered it and formed it into a flat can shape. I made the initial hole in my clay and than stopped the wheel to check the width of the bottom. I use the "butterfly hands" technique to open up the hole and begin to pull up the walls. I made sure to pull up slowly and follow in inward so I could make the neck of the vase later. I then used a series of tools to taper and shape the bottom of the vase. Using the "a-okay" technique, I began to create the neck of the vase.I used a needle tool to trim the lip of the vase and then altered it to make it wavy. I cut the vase off the bat using a wire tool. I then let the vase become leather hard and scrubbed it with a brilo pad to make it smooth. It was then bisque fired and after glazed using the bubble technique. Lastly the vase was glaze fired.
