Negative Space
What did I make?I created a sculptural bowl shaped piece. The piece has tree forms with negative space all within them.
Why did I make it?I created this piece to show off the element of space. I tried to challenge myself to create as much negative space as possible without the piece breaking. I choose to cut out tree forms because I like making pieces inspired by nature and thought it would give me the opportunity to create a lot of negative space.

How did I make it?
To make this piece, I started by using the slump method to create a slab bowl. Once this bowl was leather hard, I used a knife to cut out the tree designs and negative space. I then smoothed and cleaned up my project using a wet paint brush and Brillo pad. My piece was then bisque fired. I used multiple shades of colored underglazes to create a complex look. I then dipped the piece in clear glaze and it was glaze fired.
